CAT-5 Elastomeric Patch Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between Brush Grade and Knife Grade?
Brush Grade is for hairline cracks — apply it with a clean brush or other flexible blade. Knife Grade should be used for cracks larger than 1/2", applied with a putty knife or trowel.
What kind of cracks and holes is CAT-5 Patch used for?
Larger non-structural cracks, and repairing and waterproofing cracks and holes in above-grade masonry and stucco surfaces. It's not intended for structural cracks.
How long do I wait between coats or before painting?
If a gap needs two applications, allow 24 hours between them. The product specifications list a 4–6 hour paint-over time, but the application instructions separately say to allow 24 hours before top coating — those two numbers don't fully agree, so it's worth confirming with Tower Sealants which one applies to your situation before painting.
What temperature can CAT-5 Patch be applied in?
Apply when sealant, surface, and air temperature are above 40°F and rising, with air no hotter than 95°F and substrate no hotter than 140°F. Don't apply when rain is expected. Once cured, it holds up across a -30°F to 180°F service temperature range.
How flexible is CAT-5 Patch once cured?
It offers 300% elongation and stays extremely flexible, which is what lets it move with hairline and larger non-structural cracks instead of re-cracking.
What substrates does CAT-5 Patch work on?
Masonry, ceramic tile, wood, concrete, brick, metal, and synthetic stucco.
What warranty does CAT-5 Patch come with?
A 60-year guarantee. If the product cracks, peels, or separates within 60 years of installation after proper storage and application, Tower Sealants will replace it when the purchaser returns proof of purchase.
Is CAT-5 Patch sandable?
No — the product cannot be sanded. Tool it to the desired finish and profile before it dries, since that's the only way to shape it.
