Description

Tower® Residential Sealant is a specially formulated sealant manufactured with proprietary polymer technology designed for use with the Tyvek® Weatherization Systems. Has superior adhesion and durability with greater than 800% elongation. Easy to apply, this sealant forms a flexible, durable, and watertight seal offering exceptional protection from environmental conditions. This proprietary technology reduces dirt pickup, eliminates yellowing and cleans easily with soap and water. It can be used on a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces. Once cured, is mildew resistant and exceeds the following requirements: Fed. Spec. TTS-00230C, Type II, Class A; ASTM C-920, Grade NS, Class 25, and ASTM C-834 type OP, Grade-18°C; complies with AAMA 808.3. Tower Residential Sealant is an all-purpose residential sealant recommended for use sealing around House Wraps, Flashings, Doors, Windows, Siding, Penetrations, Stucco, EIFS, Hardboard Siding, Crown Molding, Jambs, and Trim. Substrates include, but are not limited to: Masonry, Brick, Concrete, Wood, Metal, Marble, Glass, Porcelain, Vinyl and Ceramic Tile.

Priming

Tower® Residential Sealant is generally considered a non-priming sealant. It is the user’s responsibility to check the adhesion of the cured sealant on typical test joints at the project site before and during application — consult Technical Services for additional information.

Substrate Preparation

Surfaces to be sealed must be dry and free of all dirt, dust, oil, mildew, loose paint, old caulk or other contaminates. Only apply when sealant, surface and air temperatures are above 40°F and rising. Do not apply on surfaces that exceed 160°F, or when rain is expected.

Installation

Tower® Residential Sealant comes ready to use. U-shaped joints should have the proper size backer rod or bond breaker tape installed to prevent 3-point adhesion. The sealant must reach the deepest point of the joint. Remove excess with a clean rag and water. Tooling the joint flush with a putty knife is recommended. Tooling results in the correct bead shape, a neat joint, and maximum adhesion. 90° joints can be tooled smooth with a moistened rag to a minimum bead size of 3/8″. In properly configured joints, can be used to seal 2″ wide joints.

Cure Time

@ 75°F (24°C), 50% relative humidity, joint size ½″ × ¼″

The cure of Tower® Residential Sealant varies with temperature and humidity. Full and complete cure may take 24 to 72 hours, and lower temperatures and/or higher humidity will extend curing times. The product should be allowed 21 days to fully cure before any performance testing.

Clean-Up / Removal

Immediately after use, clean equipment with soap and water. Remove cured sealant by cutting with a sharp-edged tool. Remove thin films by abrading.

Limitations

Tower® Residential Sealant should not be used for the following:

• Structural applications
• Below grade applications
• Surfaces that are continuously immersed
• Under door transitions to exteriors without proper risers
• On frost laden or wet surfaces
• If rain is imminent within 4 to 6 hours
• Surfaces where direct food contact could occur
• Do not apply on surfaces that are hotter than 160°F (71°C)
• Do not use solvents when tooling sealant

Certification & Testing

*The wet peel adhesion value for Glass prints as “25–2” on this TDS — the same truncated-looking number that showed up on AU-1's and Tower Tech²'s sheets too. That's now three separate TDS documents with the identical cut-off figure, which makes this look like a shared template problem rather than three unrelated typos. Worth fixing at the source template if possible, since it'll otherwise keep reappearing on every future sheet.

The TDS also notes: do not pull test, water test, or pressure test this sealant until application has fully cured — early testing may cause washout or failure.
