Tub & Tile Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between White and Clear Tub & Tile?

White contains a calcium carbonate pigment (about 72.5% solids, 11.0 ± 0.5 lbs/gallon) and meets ASTM C-834 Type OP, Grade -18°C. Clear has no pigment (about 60% solids, 8.90 ± 0.5 lbs/gallon) and meets ASTM C-834 Type C, Grade 0°C — it guns out white but dries clear. Application, coverage, and packaging sizes are the same for both.

Can Tub & Tile be used on mirrors?

No — the manufacturer specifically instructs not to use it on mirrors.

How long before I can paint over Tub & Tile?

The product specifications list a 24-hour paint-over time, but the application instructions separately say to allow 4 to 6 hours before painting — those two figures don't fully agree. The TDS also notes to test paint for compatibility first, so it's worth confirming timing with Tower Sealants before painting over it.

Is Tub & Tile safe for wet areas like showers?

Yes — it's designed for sinks, tubs, showers, and countertops and forms a watertight, mildew-resistant seal once cured. It's not intended, though, for areas that will be fully submerged in water.

How do I deal with existing mold or mildew before applying?

Clean the area first with a mild bleach solution, then make sure the surface is fully dry and free of dirt, dust, oil, and old caulk before applying.

What temperature can Tub & Tile be applied in?

Apply when sealant, surface, and air temperature are above 40°F and rising, with air no hotter than 95°F and substrate no hotter than 120°F. Once cured, it holds up across a 0°F to 160°F service temperature range.

What substrates does Tub & Tile work on?

Masonry, ceramic tile, marble, concrete, brick, glass, wood, metal, and porcelain.

Can Tub & Tile be used in submerged or food-contact areas?

No. It's not intended for areas that will be submerged in water or for food contact surfaces, and it should be kept from freezing before use.

What warranty does Tub & Tile come with?

A 40-year guarantee. If the product cracks, peels, or separates within 40 years of installation after proper storage and application, Tower Sealants will replace it when the purchaser returns proof of purchase.
