AU-1 LAB
Application Guide
Product Description
AU-1 LAB is a high performance, single component, Styrene Butadiene Resin (SBR) elastomeric liquid weather resistive barrier and flashing membrane. This weather resistive barrier (WRB) functions as both a membrane and flashing and is designed to protect structures from moisture intrusion, air leakage, and environmental stressors. This low-odor, waterproofing barrier can be sprayed, brushed, rolled or troweled, and requires no primer. It is formulated to provide a permanent, breathable waterproof seal with excellent adhesion to most common substrates, including green concrete. It is low VOC, easy to apply, and is easy to clean with soap & water. AU-1 LAB can be used on rough openings, around penetrations and on broad wall applications as a weather-resistive barrier.

Surface Preparation
- Clean SurfaceSurfaces must be free of all dirt, dust, oil, mildew, frost or other contaminants.
- Repair DamageAny structural damage must be repaired prior to application.
- Seal CracksNon-structural cracks or joints up to ½" should be sealed with AU-1 Elastomeric Construction Sealant prior to application.
No Primer Needed
A primer is not needed for most common substrates. AU-1 LAB can be applied to green concrete.
- Adhesion TestingAdhesion testing is recommended to ensure proper adhesion to the substrate.

Application Methods
AU-1 LAB can be applied using multiple methods for different applications
METHOD 1
Liquid-Applied Flashing
Use a brush, roller, sprayer or trowel to apply AU-1 LAB to a minimum of 30 wet mils over the desired area of the rough opening including the exterior surface.
No Primer Needed
- 1.15 – 2.5 GPM sprayer recommended
- Tip orifice size: .021 - .025 at 3000 PSI
- Back-roll after spraying to eliminate pinholes
Roller Application
Use a minimum ¾" nap high quality roller. Apply up to 60 wet mils without sagging.

CMU OR PRECAST PANELS
CMU or Precast Panel Installation
Cover entire rough opening or entire wood buck with AU-1 Liquid-Applied Flashing. Recommended 4" coverage on exterior and 2" overlap in material transitions.
Coverage Requirements
- Exterior Coverage
- Material Transition Overlap

OSB/PLYWOOD/GYPSUM SHEATHING
Sheathing Installation
Apply AU-1 Liquid-Applied Flashing around rough openings with proper coverage on framing surface and exterior. Recommended 4" coverage on exterior and 2" overlap in material transitions.
- ImportantAllow product to skin before installing any components into rough openings. Skin times may vary by humidity and conditions.

METHOD 2
Weather Resistive Barrier (WRB)
For broad wall applications over plywood/OSB sheathing
Seam Preparation
OPTION 1 - RECOMMENDED
AU-1 Construction Sealant Method
Generously apply a large bead of AU-1 Construction Sealant into board seams and strike flush. Allow the sealant to become tack-free before applying AU-1 LAB.
- Why Recommended?Provides superior adhesion and flexibility in board seams for long-term performance.

OPTION 2 - ALTERNATIVE
Mesh Tape Method
- Apply AU-1 LAB over all seams and corners using a dry, clean joint knife or trowel
- Embed a compatible mesh tape securely in the AU-1 LAB
- Trowel AU-1 LAB over the mesh tape, extending minimum 1" beyond seam edge
- Ensure an even coat with no pinholes. Allow to become tack-free before full surface application

Full Surface Application
Once all seams and rough openings have been properly prepared, use a brush, roller, or airless sprayer to apply AU-1 LAB to a minimum of 30 wet mils over the exterior surface.
- Application Requirements
- Use wet mil gauge to ensure proper thickness
- Back-roll after spray application
- Ensure membrane is free of pinholes
- Allow to become tack-free before additional coats
Minimum Thickness
- Wet Mil Application
- Maximum Without Sagging

Quality Control
Use a wet mil gauge to ensure proper thickness throughout the application. This ensures optimal performance and longevity of the barrier.
Coverage Rate
- 30 mil wet

Post-Application Care
- UV ProtectionAU-1 LAB should be covered within 9 months after application to prevent possible UV damage.
- Self-Sealing PropertyAU-1 LAB is self-sealing and does not require additional sealing around properly installed cladding fasteners.
- System IntegrationEnsure barrier is integrated with roofing system where wall meets roof/soffit. Integrate with other building wrap/waterproofing systems per manufacturer's instructions.
- Moisture ProtectionEnsure exterior walls are capped or protected to prevent moisture intrusion.
- Important Limitations
• Not intended for areas submerged in water
• Keep product from freezing prior to application/curing
• Not for food contact surfaces
• Product cannot be sanded

Clean Up
Immediately after use, clean uncured material and tools with soap and water.
Remove cured membrane by cutting with a sharp-edged tool.
Storage
Store in original, unopened containers, away from heat and direct sunlight. Keep from freezing.
- Shelf LifeWhen stored at 50°F to 80°F
