Ex-Cell Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Ex-Cell suitable for acoustical applications?

Ex-Cell meets ASTM E90-09 for use in acoustical applications when used as described in ASTM C919, on top of meeting ASTM C-834 (Type OP, Grade 0°C) for general sealant performance.

What joint size is Ex-Cell rated for?

Up to 1/2 inch in properly designed joints. Use a foam backer rod for joints that exceed 1/2 inch in depth.

How long before I can paint over Ex-Cell?

Allow 4 to 6 hours before painting. Full cure is reached in 7 to 14 days.

What temperature can Ex-Cell be applied in?

Apply when sealant, surface, and air temperature are above 40°F and rising, with air no hotter than 95°F and substrate no hotter than 120°F. Once cured, it holds up across a -25°F to 180°F service temperature range.

What substrates does Ex-Cell work on?

Masonry, ceramic tile, wood, concrete, glass, metal, and brick.

How much coverage do I get from one tube?

A 10.1 fl oz tube covers about 55 linear feet at a 3/16 inch bead.

Can Ex-Cell be used in submerged or food-contact areas?

No. It's not intended for areas that will be submerged in water or for food contact surfaces, and it should be kept from freezing before use.

What warranty does Ex-Cell come with?

A 40-year guarantee. If the product cracks, peels, or separates within 40 years of installation after proper storage and application, Tower Sealants will replace it when the purchaser returns proof of purchase.

What's the difference between Ex-Cell and Accura TT-S?

Ex-Cell is a siliconized latex caulk positioned as a quality general-purpose sealant, backed by a 40-year guarantee, a -25°F to 180°F service range, and a 120°F substrate application limit. Accura TT-S is a 100% acrylic elastomeric Government Specification Sealant that additionally exceeds ASTM C-920 and Federal Spec TTS-00230C, carries a 60-year guarantee, and holds up to a wider -35°F to 180°F service range with a higher 140°F substrate limit. Both meet ASTM C-834 and are rated for acoustical use, but Accura TT-S is the higher-spec, longer-warranty option of the two.
